Deaf since birth, I am twenty-seven years old.
I am a native Washingtonian and a very proud Black Deaf woman dedicated
to serving as a role model and mentor for youth. I taught pre-kindergarten
and kindergarten at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, which led to my
present position as Family Educator for 4th, 5th 6th,
7th, and 8th graders. My responsibilities include
providing support, information and opportunities to help parents/guardians
become actively involved in their children’s education.
Currently I serve as a board member of the D.C.
Area Black Deaf Advocates and Assistant Pageant Director for the National
Black Deaf Advocates. I am featured in the first book written on successful
deaf women and was crowned Miss Deaf District of Columbia in 1998, Miss
Gallaudet University in 1999, Miss Deaf Maryland in 2001, and Miss Deaf
America in 2002. Winning these titles has afforded me an opportunity to
motivate youth and share my motto: Embrace their heritage and strive for
excellence.
