Secretary
Plumie H. Gainey was born
in Richmond, Virginia at Richmond County General October 1, 1948. She
was raised in Hamlet, North Carolina while her father was stationed in
the Navy in Newport News, Virginia. She lost my hearing at age of 5
years old due to encephalitis. Her uncle was already living in
Washington, DC, was opposed to the separation schools in the South, he
advised there were good options for her to attend schools for
handicapped children in DC area.
After several
transfers from one school to another, Plumie enrolled the pre-school at
KSD. She continued my education there until I graduated in 1966 and then
went to Gallaudet College from 1966 to 1971.
Plumie is a single
mother with 2 grown up sons, Herman and Franco. She is currently working
at Foreign Service agency for Department of State for 25 years. Her

and shopping.
